what is the IUPAC name of the product ester in Biodiesel?

For my senior project I am deciding on wither I will do it on bio-diesel and create my own or design my own wastewater treatment plants for developing countries.
Bio-diesel or Water?? I think that the diesel is more in my area (chemical engineering) I think that the world needs to stop depending on fossil fuels and find an alternative; the water idea is leaning more towards environmental engineering, but I believe that every humane being deserves clean drinkable water.

Suggestions? Thoughts?

I didn’t ask your opinions on biodiesel, just what the number means.

How much is a gallon of biodiesel?

How much is a gallon of biodiesel in the U.S. as of 2010?

I was wondering, in the process of Biodiesel production what is it that they do during each step? I’ve reaserched using Wikipedia, but I can’t really understand what it says (basically because I’m a 15 year old without any knowledge or Chemistry…yet XD).

Anyways in the page it says that the steps are:
1. Purification
2. Neutralization
3. Transesterification (this is the one I REALLY don’t understand)
4. Workup

biodiesel derived from vegetable oil commonly called as methyl or ethyl esters.their quality is badly affected by high sulfated ash

What is the energy efficency of biodiesel?

We drive an 06 VW Jetta TDI an 99 Ford F250 w/Powerstroke diesel. We brew about 75% of the fuel we use from used restaurant oil. Americans collectively spend 0,000 a minute to buy foreign oil. It is great to reduce our personal petrodiesel consumption. Also, a diesel engine is app. 25-30% more effiecient than a gasoline engine..resulting in increased fuel economy.
