HElP! I need to compare diesel and bio diesel for my chem homework so i meed ro know some simlarities and differences.

For my senior project I am deciding on wither I will do it on bio-diesel and create my own or design my own wastewater treatment plants for developing countries.
Bio-diesel or Water?? I think that the diesel is more in my area (chemical engineering) I think that the world needs to stop depending on fossil fuels and find an alternative; the water idea is leaning more towards environmental engineering, but I believe that every humane being deserves clean drinkable water.

Suggestions? Thoughts?

I will be buying a ford focus under 5 years old and would like to run it on recycled bio-diesel. A friend runs a Peugeot 306 HD on 100% in the summer and 50:50 in the winter and that particular engine runs really well on it.Which Ford Focus type should I be looking out for, as I’d like to limit damage and filter clogging.

I know that ethanol is generally mixed with gasoline
and bio-diesel cut with Diesel , the question really is I guess is could you mix bio diesel with regular gas rather then diesel and get ethanol I just don’t get it?

What type of rebates are available with homemade bio-diesel? Who can I contact to get any funding? Is there anything that I have not thought of where I could get money back?

I accidentaly got a bad batch of bio diesel and I put it in my hummer. I didn’t use it for a while and it turned into a hard glycerin substance. I want to try and dissolve it so I can get it out of the hummer without spend 1000′s of dollars at a repair shop. Any suggestions?

We are making a bio diesel and we have to test it. We have a grass trimmer here but I don’t know how to test it. Do we pour the whole biodiesel so it’s the pure thing working on the engine? But I heard it only need around 20% of the bio diesel to mix with something? :/ Help! Please.

To make your own bio diesel, you need vegetable oil, alcohol, and lye. By mixing alcohol and lye, sodium methoxide is created. This concoction is then mixed with vegetable oil to create biodiesel and the by product of glycerin. The two are separated and the biodiesel is ready to be added to your gas tank. Making biodiesel really is that simple. If you are squeamish about making fuel in a blender, you can purchase a biodiesel kit that contains all of the tools you need to make your own fuel. If you are going to utilize biodiesel blended fuel in any vehicle or stationary engine make certain you get a position letter/statement from the manufacturer of the engine. You will find that most engine manufacturers will not accept any liability for the quality of the fuel and if it does damage they will not repair at their expense but yours!

In a nutshell, the process to make your own bio diesel consists of mixing lye and methanol (or ethanol) together and stirring them into the oil. After several hours glycerin (soap) molecules settle to the bottom, and the biodiesel can be siphoned off the top and put into any diesel tank.

It goes against the environmental benefits of using biodiesel if someone cut down rain forest to plant oil producing crops to make biodiesel it is a fair question to ask your suppliers. Biodiesel is obviously also more sustainable because it is made from a renewable resource (plants) while petroleum is a non-renewable, finite resource.
