Following a recent article in the LA Weekly, which made alternative fuel and electric cars look very cool, I started some web research of my own. Wow, there is a lot out there that makes it look like we could drive a lot greener then we do, pollute less, and stop sucking on the tit of the big oil companies who just showed record profits at our expense, sounds cool to me. The thing that intrigued me the most was a co-op in LA that sells Biodiesel that can power any non-modified modern diesel car. So I’m in hyper drive with intrigue, and I’m interested in knowing what others know about Biodiesel or the Co-op here in LA LA Land. If anyone is using the stuff can you explain more about it?
Note: most of the answers I have received so far don’t go beyond the minimal web research I’ve done following reading the Article mentioned above, but thanks anyway. I just discovered that it is commercially available NOW here in LA, too cool. Soooo…what I’m looking for are answers form people that are actually driving biodiesel powered cars, and their experience with it, so that I can decide if it is the right choice for me or not.

I’m thinking about making my own biodiesel to power a diesel car I might buy in the near future, but I need to know what I need to make it, and how much it will cost. If anyone can please speak up! Oh btw it probably be an old 1980′s Mercedes-Benz 300D or equivilant.

I have heard a lot about how good biodiesel is for the environment, and that it actually cleans the air. I think that it’s a really great alternative to fossil fuel, and I want to start using it with my car (a new Subaru Forrester)
However, I’ve heard that biodiesel can be really bad for your engine if you don’t have a relatively new diesel car. Then just the other day I read in an article that it works fine with any newer cars. Please tell me if my car (again, a subaru forrester) can handle it!!

I’m 38 and believe it or not, looking buy my very first car ever this summer. I’ll probably have less than 00 to work with. I want a reliable used diesel car or truck to run on biodiesel, possibly even veggie oil or filtered fryer grease. Suggestions?

I would like to try to make biodiesel. I have just purchased a very old diesel car and would like to experiment with it a little. Do you know of some biodiesel creation videos? I saw one a few months ago on Metacafe, but I can’t seems to find it. Thanks!

i have a car that runs on regular gas…
it is an suv type of car and i am not looking forward to having it guzzle my money away.
so i want to look into converting it to bio fuel.
ive been looking things up and all i am finding is info about converting diesel cars into biodiesel…
so i am wondering how to do it for a non-diesel car.

I’m sick and tired of the rising gas prices! Are there converter kits? All I’ve seen on the web is converting from a diesel car such as a Mercedes Benz to a biodiesel. Plus, it sounds like you still need to keep the diesel gas tank to warm up the car.

okay, i am freaking annoyed! i cant find the price of a biodiesel car and everyone says it cost the same amout as a diesel car. i have no idea how much a diesel car cost so ya. Does it also cost more or less than a gasoline car too?
