Why don't we have cars that run on biodiesel?

Biodiesel is less expensive to make than ethanol, and gives better energy. No one is making biodiesel cars. I think they are missing a great opportunity to exploit a resource that has barely been tapped. Too bad we are so short sighted. It would be much more economical than Hydrogen power in the more near future. We could start in a year or two.

I want to buy a new car, and i want something that will help the environment. I know i can make my own biodiesel, and while nto helping so much in the emissions, it is still better for the environment, but i have also done some reading in FlexFuel (methanol, ethanol or gasoline engines) and hybids but am not sure which is the best option

Some current forms of alternative automotive fuel energies that are used include biodiesel, ethanol, hydrogen, and electricity (in hybrid autos). Define each form and discuss which one(or another form of energy) that you think will have the best chance to become the next standard form of automobile fuel energy when petroleum becomes too scarce and/or too expensive. Be sure to provide reasons to back up your choice.

Has any one really used homemade Ethanol, Biodiesel, and Gas to run your car? The cost is higher or lower than the gasoline on the market? Did you grow starch & sugar crops (corn, wheat, sugar cane, potatoes) in your back yard or you have some sources to get cornstalks& fruit and vegetable peelings? If you made biodiesel by using your own septic tank will not help much, because within city limit, your septic tank have to be 50 feet away from the water bed (aquifer).

Currently, rainforests are being destroyed to grow sugar to make biofuel. Corn is being grown to make ethanol. Why? Biofuel can be made from cooking oil.

For instance, if you had a mixture of methanol and ethanol or isopropanol, would you be able to use it to separate the glycerine? I ask because i need to extract glycerine from vegetable oil to make tinctures for teetotalers and i may not be able to obtain pure methanol.

I know that ethanol is generally mixed with gasoline
and bio-diesel cut with Diesel , the question really is I guess is could you mix bio diesel with regular gas rather then diesel and get ethanol I just don’t get it?

A couple of years ago I say this history channel program about how they can grow and harvest algea and turn it into biodiesel and ethanol. During the show they just had small test tanks which were succesfull, but were in the process of scaleing way up. Does anyone know how that’s going? was it successful?

Will the next war be over bread(wheat0?

Now that some farmers have abandoned growing wheat for corn, sunflowers and canola to make ethanol and biodiesel instead of wheat for food. We are on the verge of paying twice as much for a loaf of bread. Since we as people have not demanded better technology for harnessing natural energy like sun, wind and battery storage and allow the farm to grow food not fuel are we going to go to war over food since we have gone to war over fuel or are we going to allow our fellow man to starve in order to keep our vehicles running? It is getting the the point where gas per litre is less than a loaf of bread. What gives??
