I am about to start planting jatropha trees in Madagascar. Jatropha seeds can be used to make biodiesel. It would be interesting to guage knoweledge and interest in a fuel that is renewable and less polluting than petroleum diesel from your responses
Dear "GoAway" thank you for replying to my question in response to your points…
Jatropha is used as a tutuer for vanilla meaning that is used to hold the vanilla plant up so actually land for vanilla is already being used for biofuels.
One of the nice things about jatropha is that it can be planted on non-agricultural land because its basicly a tree that will grow anywhere. I certainly would not want to plant biofuel plants in a situation that would compete with food crops.

Jonie… hydro has nothing to do with CO2 and killing the plants. It’s water!!! Duh! don’t answer a question that you don’t know about!! lol

Does anyone have information on extracting oils from plants to produce biodiesel?
I have done searches but I need to find where I can get the actual machinery etc.
I want to test some relatively new plants that grow extremely rapidly with little care.
The plant material I will be experimenting with rates normally from 2 to 10 percent oil and is not a seed.

I really need to know this certain ingredient or chemical present in plants, such as the jatropha, that can be used as biodiesel. I’m conducting a study testing the feasibility of a certain plant species’ extract as biofuel, but i don’t know the chemical present in it that makes it possible as biodiesel. I’m really in quite a pickle here. Need help.. Thanks!!!

Biodesel reqiures land to be cultivate, that means it will occupy the area of agricultural farms which is not possible, since we need more food to feed our growing population. so the other option is to clear forest area to cultivate these plants, it is not wise to go for biodiesel at the cost of forest area. also, the number of vehicle is increasing day by day that means the emmission of pollutant will increase. it is better to go for renewable source of energy than the biodiesel.
